Link!

My brother and I play a lot of video games together, so last year I thought it'd be cool if I made him something to do with one of them. I settled on making him Link, like from "The Phantom Hourglass" and "The Minish Cap"etc.

Problem is, I'm notorious for getting birthday presents to people wayyy later than I should. So this time I decided to start the project a month in advance. That, I reasoned, would be plenty of time to make Link. And I did end up getting it to him that month... a year later.

He will never let me live it down.

Between school, my reluctance to crochet hands (I crocheted about eight different hands for this thing. They all turned out so goofy looking I had to come up with a new way to make them), other projects, and my stellar ability to distract myself (see picture below) this guy kept getting pushed aside.

He almost looks like fabio...

BUT, I figured I probably shouldn't let another birthday go by so I finally got it together, gave Link a much needed hair cut, and completed the rest of the project in record time. Here's a couple of his glamour shots.

My brother was pleasantly surprised to finally receive his gift. I'd like to say "lesson learned"... but it probably wasn't.

maybe next time...

Until then, see you later

Kirby!

This is a project I did about a year ago, it was for another one of my friends' birthdays. He really likes the Nintendo Kirby games so...

Yeah, sorry the picture's so grainy, I didn't have a good camera on me at the time.

Kirby was a pretty simple project. The only difficult part about making him was the eyes, which took a considerable amount of patience to pull off.

But all in all, it wasn't that bad!

Kirby is one of the projects I have listed on my Etsy site. For those of you that don't know, Etsy.com is a website that has a bunch of online shops for people who create, or collect, and sell things .

I love doing custom projects too, so if you ever have an idea about something you might like crocheted, send me a message on my blog or Etsy page and I'd be happy to work with you!

Here's a link to my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/hamallie

Well, that's it for now.

The world in the palm of my hands!

I'm a giant nerd.

So, naturally, I lept at the chance to crochet a globe for a secret valentine's day present (a week-late secret valentine's anyway). In my head, this project was going to work out perfectly.

Really, it was going to be great!

But, by the time it was all over, I was cursing tiny island countries, Argentina's cape had ripped off, and I had a much greater sense of appreciation for early cartographers than I ever believed possible. BUT... I did it.

A brief comparison of Saudi Arabia and Madagascar shows how completely inaccurate this globe ended up being haha

To anyone attempting this project, I'd suggest tracing the countries' outlines off a globe (NOT a map), keeping a bunch of pins on hand to keep the countries in place, and marking the equator somehow (probably with more pins). Good luck!

The First Post

For some reason, in my head, I read the title for this post in the voice of those little aliens from Toy Story... so, overall, good start to the blog.

My guess is, the fact that you're reading this means you either : (a) know me (b) are on one of those late-night forays into the wild depths of the internet ... or, you know, you googled something about crocheting.

But I'm glad that, for whatever reason, you're here, so thanks for dropping by!

As you've probably guessed, I'll be posting pictures of whatever I'm crocheting at the time, so that will be the main purpose of the blog...

But I'm sure I'll get off track now and then and start posting pictures of plants, books and lots and lots of cats, so if you're a die hard crochet conservative I'll just apologize in advance (also note imminent Harry Potter, The Office, Dr.Who and Sherlock rants, they're bound to happen).

As of now, I don't really have any set updating schedule in mind. Just whenever the fancy hits me. I usually crochet things for my friends or family's birthdays so my posts will be dictated mostly by that.

Annnd, yeah that's it. Thanks again for checking out my blog. I'll leave you with a picture of my first ever crochet project (well, the first one that didn't turn out as a giant ball of knotted string, anyways). I made it for a birthday.

Et voila... the crochet lion (later dubbed "Christian" after this story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btuxO-C2IzE )
